There is no single standard coupon size. Print coupons follow the paper they are cut from, and digital coupons follow the screen they are shown on. This guide lists the sizes that work in practice, when to use each one, and how Coupon Creator handles size so you rarely have to think about it.
Standard print coupon sizes #
Most printed coupons fall into one of five sizes. The dimensions are in inches, with millimetres in brackets.
| Size | Dimensions | Where it comes from | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business card | 3.5 x 2 (89 x 51 mm) | Standard card stock, 10 per letter sheet | Wallet coupons, loyalty cards, counter handouts |
| Tear-off strip | 8.5 x 2.75 (216 x 70 mm) | A letter sheet cut into thirds lengthwise | Flyers with a coupon along the bottom, receipts |
| Postcard | 6 x 4 (152 x 102 mm) | Standard mailing postcard | Direct mail, bag stuffers |
| Quarter page | 4.25 x 5.5 (108 x 140 mm) | A letter sheet cut into four | Inserts, menu slips, event handouts |
| Half page | 8.5 x 5.5 (216 x 140 mm) | A letter sheet cut in half | Newspaper-style coupons, printable offers from a website |
Two rules hold across all of them. Keep text at least 0.125 inch (3 mm) inside the cut line, because trimming is never exact. And keep the smallest type at 8 points or larger, or the terms will not survive a home printer.
Digital coupon sizes #
On screen, a coupon's size is a ratio and a pixel width, not a physical measurement.
| Use | Pixels | Ratio | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coupon in a page or sidebar | 600 x 300 | 2:1 | Scales down cleanly on phones |
| Social image (Facebook, LinkedIn, X) | 1200 x 630 | 1.91:1 | Also the Open Graph image size |
| Instagram post | 1080 x 1080 | 1:1 | Square; put the offer in the centre |
| 600 px wide | any | Most email clients cap content at 600 px | |
| Phone screen, full width | 390 px wide | any | Design the text to be readable at this width first |
Width matters more than height on the web. A coupon designed to read at 390 pixels wide works everywhere; one designed at 1200 and shrunk does not.
Print resolution #
For anything that will be printed, build the artwork at 300 dots per inch. A 3.5 x 2 inch business-card coupon is 1050 x 600 pixels at 300 dpi; a 6 x 4 postcard is 1800 x 1200. Screen graphics at 72 or 96 dpi look soft in print, which reads as untrustworthy on an offer.
How Coupon Creator sizes a coupon #
Coupons built in Coupon Creator are responsive. They fill the width of the column they sit in, down to a phone screen, and the print view lays the coupon out on a letter or A4 page at a size that fits the page with the terms readable. You set the content and the style; the plugin sets the dimensions.
Three places where size is still your call:
- Image coupons. When you upload your own artwork as the coupon, the image's own dimensions apply. Use the digital sizes above for the upload and let the plugin scale it. Image Coupon Size covers the recommended upload size and how the print view treats it.
- The print view. Printing Coupons explains the print button, the print popup in Pro, and how to add print-only content such as terms or a barcode.
- Alignment and width in a page. The Coupon Block and the shortcode both take alignment, and the block editor's wide and full settings control how much of the content column a coupon uses. See Displaying Coupons.
Which size should you pick #
- Handing coupons out in person: business card.
- Printing from your website: let the plugin's print view handle it. If you are designing an image coupon, half page.
- Mailing: postcard.
- Sharing on social media: 1200 x 630 for feeds, 1080 x 1080 for Instagram.
- Embedding in a page: build it in Coupon Creator and let it stay responsive.
If you are starting from nothing, Creating a Coupon walks through building the first one, and the Coupon Templates page shows every design the plugin ships with, all printable.
