No. By default anyone can sign up with a first name and email address—no account or login. An organizer may make the email optional, require a WordPress login, or protect the whole event with a shared event password.
Guest signups are controlled in two places:
- Site-wide: Manifyst → Settings → General → Allow Guest Signups. Leave it on to let visitors sign up freely.
- Per event: the event's Event Details tab → Require users to be logged in to sign up. Turn this on for a single event that should be members-only, without changing the setting for everything else.
Require an email address to sign up is a separate per-event setting. It defaults on so confirmations, reminders, and self-cancellation links can work, but it can be turned off for a committee sheet where a name is enough.
Password protected visibility is separate again: visitors enter one shared event password before they can see the sheet, but they still do not need a WordPress account unless login is also required for signup. See How do password-protected events work?.
Guests who provide an email still get the full experience: a confirmation email, a reminder before the event, and a secure link they can use to cancel themselves. What they don't get is the [manifyst_my_signups] list, which needs a logged-in user—see Where do I put the shortcodes?.
