Every released version of Steuard, from 3.2.0 back to 2.5.0.
Full changelog: see CHANGELOG.md in the plugin folder.
3.2.0 — 2026-09-30 #
- New: Steuard now tells you when it can't reach Toast or Google. The Connections card turns to Needs attention with the reason and date (rejected credentials, a secret that can't be read after the site's security keys changed, or a provider that has stopped answering), a site-wide admin notice says which connection is failing and links to the fix, and the Dashboard's Data Freshness row shows the actual error instead of generic advice.
- Change: Clear Menu Cache — on the Dashboard and in the front-end cache bar — now reports whether the refresh worked. If it did not, it says why and that visitors are still seeing the last saved menu, instead of a green "cache cleared".
- Change: the front-end cache bar shows a warning line with the reason while the connection is failing, with a link to the Connections tab. Visitors never see it.
- Fix: a saved Client Secret that no longer decrypts (typically after a database was copied to a site with different security keys) is now reported as exactly that, with a link to the fix, rather than as "missing credentials" on a card that shows every field filled in.
- New: a Composed menu section with a description and no items now shows as a text block — a callout or note above your sections — instead of being left off the menu. It carries its own CSS class (steuard-section–text-only) so a theme can style it as a box.
- Change: the Dashboard's Connection Log now names the menu a blank render was for, links to it, and shows its status in red when it isn't Published, so a menu that is simply still a Draft is obvious at a glance instead of reading as "not found".
- Fix: the Toast Channel Filter is respected on every menu. Since 3.1.1, a menu whose items carried none of the selected channels quietly showed all of its items, POS-only ones included; it now shows none, and the Connections tab warns which menus the selection leaves empty so you can fix the selection or tag the items in Toast.
3.1.4 — 2026-09-30 #
- New: the
[steuard_rating]shortcode puts your current Google rating and review count into plain text — page copy, a hero line, or a text file such as llms.txt — so the number updates itself instead of being typed by hand. Formats:sentence(default, "4.4 out of 5 from 125 Google reviews"),rating, count, andjson; afallbackattribute covers the moment no data is available, and the shortcode never prints a zero or a partial sentence.
3.1.3 — 2026-09-29 #
- Fix: every Review in the review structured data now names the business it reviews (
itemReviewed), which Search Console had flagged as a missing required field. - New: a Business section on the Display tab sets the business name, schema.org type, and the structured-data ID your SEO plugin publishes for the business. A Detect button reads them from the homepage, so menu and review data attach to the right node whichever SEO plugin the site runs.
- New: a Structured data checkbox on each Review connection's Display tab controls whether its reviews emit structured data. It is off for new connections (a business's own reviews cannot earn star ratings) and stays on for connections that existed before this version.
- New: the
steuard_schema_restaurant_namefilter, a companion tosteuard_schema_restaurant_idwith the same signature.
3.1.2 — 2026-09-24 #
- Fix: review structured data now prints in the page footer, so page builders can no longer strip its type and turn it into a script error.
- Change: review structured data marks the reviews up as content of the page (a list of reviews the page is about) instead of a star rating on the business. Google's review-snippet policy makes a business's own reviews on its own site ineligible for stars, so the aggregate rating is no longer emitted.
- Fix: owner replies and review text keep their line breaks.
- Fix: long owner replies no longer appear twice in the page; the collapsed preview is a short excerpt.
3.1.1 — 2026-09-22 #
- New: a CSS class field on the Menu post's Layout tab adds your own class names to the menu's wrapper element on every placement, so a theme can style one menu differently.
- New: a "Section name shown" checkbox in the per-menu Overrides modal hides one section's heading while keeping its items, in every layout. Structured data keeps the section name.
3.1.0 — 2026-09-14 #
- New: redesigned reviews display — a rating lockup, a two-column review wall that collapses on phones, an optional per-connection section heading, and a "Write a review" link that sends customers straight to Google (both settings on the Review post's Display tab; the block and
[steuard_reviews]shortcode can override them per placement). - New: the site-wide Accent color now also styles the review links and button fallback through
--steuard-review-accent. - New: Pub layout with a warm, text-first two-column design, a half-width single-section treatment, and a one-column mobile layout. It honors Steuard's existing display, price, typography, and color controls.
- New: Trattoria layout (centered single-column fine-dining style), a Boxed tab style for Combined menus, a Hide currency symbol option, and an optional heading font stack for layouts with a display face.
- New: an optional front-end cache bar (Menu Options → Advanced) lets permitted staff clear the menu cache from the page itself; a role checklist chooses who sees it and visitors never receive its markup.
- New: Menu Tag emoji and Font Awesome fields are searchable dropdowns, and the Toast Channel Filter shows live per-channel item counts.
- New: every Menu post is permanently Toast, Manual, Composed, or Combined. Toast selects one upstream menu; Combined arranges several Menu posts as a stack or tabs.
- Changed: Toast, Manual, and Composed Menu posts own Layout, Display, Overrides, and Design settings so every placement stays consistent.
- Changed: the block, Classic editor, and
[steuard_menu id="123"]shortcode each select one published Menu post. Use a Combined Menu post for multi-menu displays. - Changed: Menu Options keeps connections and global defaults, while its duplicate Available Menus and Shortcode Reference sections have been removed.
- Changed: each Google review connection is now a Review post under Steuard → Reviews, with Connection, Display, Moderation, and copy-ready Shortcode boxes.
- New: a public menu-name override keeps website headings and Menu schema independent from the upstream Toast name.
- Fix: Menu schema now includes only descriptions, prices, calories, and tags that the matching HTML menu displays.
- New: multi-location sites can select the Restaurant ID used by menu and review schema with the
steuard_schema_restaurant_idfilter. - Upgrade: existing Manual and Composed content is retained and migrated to the versioned Menu-post schema. Connected Toast page placements from 2.6 are converted to Menu posts automatically and keep their display settings and overrides. Older Manual or Composed page placements must be selected again.
3.0.0 — 2026-08-09 #
- New: one five-tab menu configurator for Classic and block editors — inline in Classic and in a modal launched from a compact block sidebar summary.
- New: redesigned Layout tab with a live two-menu preview, interactive tabs and labels, keyboard ordering, and a three-column Featured option that keeps descriptions visible.
- New: redesigned Display tab in the page meta box — three labeled groups (What shows / Prices / Sizes) with a live demo preview that re-renders through the real front end as you change options.
- New: the two "$0" checkboxes are now one three-way rule — show the price, keep the item but hide the price, or hide the item (
zero_price_modein the shortcode; existing settings migrate automatically). - New: shared per-menu override cards and dialog in both editors — shown-state item/description/price controls, tri-state bulk actions, section visibility, per-section columns, and structured-data controls.
- New: per-instance Design overrides — site-wide menu colors and font can be overridden for one Classic or block-editor menu render.
- Improved: the admin identity font is now bundled with the plugin (no Google Fonts request), and the "Render menu on this page" control is a proper switch with a clear on/off state.
- Fix: runtime release metadata now consistently reports 3.0.0, and Docs links open the canonical Steuard knowledge-base destinations.
- New: Help tabs on every Steuard screen, doc links on error states, a Toast troubleshooting panel, and a richer sample menu (images + Glass/Bottle pricing).
- New: telemetry opt-in/out toggle and an opt-in delete-data-on-uninstall setting on the Advanced tab — deleting the plugin keeps your menus unless you say otherwise.
- New: bundled Portuguese (Brazil), French, and Spanish translations.
- Fix: the 3-step setup checklist now counts draft menus and draft pages as progress, and points you at publishing to finish.
- Fix: the Deactivate link works on sites that defer or optimize jQuery.
- New: three more multi-size price styles — stacked-plain (no leaders), badges (size+price pills), and columns (a wine-list table with a shared size header per section) — now selectable in both layouts, plus a size vocabulary that tidies POS abbreviations (GLS → glass, BTL → bottle).
- Fix: classic-editor saves no longer reset the size-price display settings; the Basic layout now renders parenthetical size notes and honors price-below for sized items.
- New: tag icons — give any menu tag an icon (an emoji, a media-library image, or a Font Awesome Free icon) from the Menu Tags screen, and it renders next to that tag on every menu. Search covers the broad emoji catalog and all bundled Font Awesome Free solid/regular icons, renders only the first 30 matches for speed, and still accepts custom supported values. Includes a one-click sync that imports tag names from connected menus.
- New: composed menus — build a custom menu from sections and items on your other menus, kept in sync with the source automatically (e.g. one brunch menu assembled from every location's brunch sections).
- New: manual menus — a drag-and-drop menu editor (sections, items, sizes, prices, images, tags, calories) that displays through the same block, shortcode, and meta box as Toast menus.
- New: guided setup — three-step dashboard checklist, one-click editable sample menu, one-click "Create menu page", and Copy shortcode buttons throughout the admin.
- New: Appearance settings — accent, review-star, and menu-tag colors with live preview, contrast feedback, and documented
--steuard-*developer properties. - New: Data Freshness panel, connection health badges, and settings auto-save.
- New: shortcode feature parity with the block (tabs, tab labels, hidden items, size-price display options) and a translation template (
languages/steuard.pot).
2.6.0 — 2026-07-15 #
- New: tabbed multi-menu display with custom tab labels and drag-and-drop ordering (block and classic meta box).
- New: "Steuard Blocks" inserter category; menu block placeholder with inline menu picker.
- Improved: connector architecture refactor; pre-release hardening and expanded test suites.
2.5.0 — 2026-07-13 #
