Google Places reviews are requested live when a public review widget, block preview, or the Moderation screen renders. Steuard does not store the Places review response or prefetch it with the daily review task. Check the most recent successful request under Steuard → Menu Options → Dashboard → Data Freshness, then reload a public page containing the Steuard Reviews block or shortcode.
If the timestamp does not advance:
- Confirm the Places key, billing, and quota on the Review post's Connection tab by following My POS or reviews connection won't connect.
- Confirm that a full-page cache, host cache, or CDN is not serving an older copy. Steuard marks pages containing Places reviews as non-cacheable; the caching layer must honor that instruction.
- Check the browser's Network panel or the server logs for a current Places API error.
Google Places still returns only up to five Google-selected reviews, so a successful live request does not guarantee that one particular new review will enter the set. See Why do only five Google reviews appear?.
If your installation has a gated review source enabled, that source still uses the daily refresh and last-good-response cache. The live-request behavior above applies to Google Places.
