Use [steuard_reviews] to display Google reviews anywhere WordPress accepts a shortcode. With no attributes, it uses the oldest published Review post and that post's saved Display settings.
The Steuard Reviews block is recommended in the block editor because it provides a connection picker, labeled controls, and a live preview. For a shortcode targeting a particular location, open its Review post under Steuard → Reviews and copy the ready-to-use example from the Shortcode tab.
The View the full reviews shortcode reference link beside that tab's
Copy shortcode button opens this article directly in a new tab.
Attributes #
| Attribute | Values and default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
connection |
A Review post's numeric ID; oldest published Review post by default | Selects the review connection to display. Use the Copy shortcode button instead of typing the ID manually. |
max |
Positive number; saved Display setting by default | Limits the number of review cards in this placement. Google Places supplies at most five Google-selected reviews, ordered by relevance. |
min_rating |
1 through 5; saved Display setting by default |
Shows only reviews at or above the selected rating. The overall Google rating and count are not recalculated. |
show_write_review |
true or false; saved Display setting (on) by default |
Shows or hides the "Write a review" button in the header. The link needs the Place ID saved on the Review post's Connection tab. |
sort |
newest, highest, lowest, or balanced |
Changes the order of review cards for sources that supply a sortable set. Google Places reviews always display in the order Google returns them, so this attribute has no effect on a Places connection. |
show_replies |
true or false |
Shows or hides owner replies for sources that supply them. Google Places does not, so this attribute has no effect on a Places connection. |
show_see_all |
true or false |
Shows or hides the "See all reviews on Google" footer link for sources that supply it. A Google Places connection shows Google's disclosure footer instead. |
Each supplied attribute overrides the saved Display setting only for that placement. Other blocks and shortcodes keep using their own attributes or the saved defaults. The section heading, display delay, and moderation list are connection-wide and have no shortcode attribute.
Examples #
Show the oldest published connection with its saved settings:
[steuard_reviews]
Show at most three reviews rated four stars or higher:
[steuard_reviews max="3" min_rating="4"]
For a specific connection, start with the shortcode produced by that Review post's Copy shortcode button. Keep its connection value exactly as copied, then add any display overrides you need:
[steuard_reviews connection="123" max="5"]
The 123 value above is only an example — it is the Review post's ID on that site.
Hide the Write-a-review button for one placement:
[steuard_reviews show_write_review="false"]
To print only the current rating and review count as plain text, without the cards, use [steuard_rating]; see the Steuard Rating Shortcode Reference.
For connection setup, see Displaying Google Reviews. For display defaults, delay, placement overrides, and moderation, see Managing Review Display and Moderation.
