If a Steuard control in the admin stops responding — the block preview won't update, the Test Connection or Fetch Locations from API buttons do nothing, review moderation won't save, or a copy button doesn't copy — the usual cause is a JavaScript error somewhere on the page. One broken script can stop the others on the same screen from running, and it often isn't Steuard's.
Quick checks first #
- Hard refresh the page. Load it again bypassing the cache (hold Shift and click reload, or use your browser's hard-reload shortcut). A stale cached script is a common cause after an update.
- Clear caches. If you run a caching, minify, or "optimize JavaScript" plugin — or a CDN — clear it. Combining or deferring scripts can break admin pages; try turning that optimization off for logged-in users and test again.
- Open the browser console. Right-click the page, choose Inspect, and open the Console tab. A red error naming a file tells you which plugin or theme the failing script belongs to.
Find the source #
If the checks above don't fix it, the failing script is almost always coming from another plugin or the theme. Work through the conflict test in Troubleshooting Conflicts — deactivate other plugins, switch to a default theme, and reintroduce them one at a time until the console error returns.
When you contact support, include the exact text of the console error and the screen you saw it on — that usually points straight at the cause.
