When Steuard misbehaves and there's no obvious error — a menu won't render, the block preview is blank, or an admin control stops responding — the fastest diagnosis is a conflict test: switch to a default theme, turn off every other plugin, and bring things back one at a time until the problem returns.
Back up your site before you start, or run the test on a staging copy.
The elimination procedure #
- Rule out the theme. Under Appearance → Themes, activate a default WordPress theme such as Twenty Twenty-Five. Test. If the problem is gone, it lives in your theme — restore the theme, confirm the problem returns, and take the details to the theme's developer.
- Rule out other plugins. On the Plugins screen, select everything except Steuard and choose Deactivate from the Bulk actions menu. Clear your browser cache and any site/CDN cache, then test again.
- Reintroduce one at a time. If the problem disappeared, reactivate plugins one by one, testing after each. The activation that brings the problem back identifies the conflict.
- Report it. Check the conflicting plugin's support resources, and report it through the Support link on any Steuard screen too — known conflicts get documented and often fixed.
Interpreting what you find #
- Broken admin controls (the block inserter or preview, the Test Connection / Fetch Locations buttons, review moderation, copy buttons) are usually JavaScript collisions — confirm with Troubleshooting JavaScript Errors.
- A menu that renders empty or won't appear on the front end is often a display or data problem rather than a conflict — start with My menu isn't showing on the page.
- If the problem survives a default theme with all other plugins off, capture the page URL and contact support so it can be reproduced.
