With Wyregraf Pro, yes — conversations are stored in your own WordPress database (never with a third party), which is what powers the chat sidebar where a visitor's discussions persist:
- Logged-out visitors get a session cookie tying them to their conversations for 48 hours of inactivity; activity extends it. Expired sessions are cleaned up automatically twice a day.
- Logged-in users keep their conversations with their account — the same discussions reappear across devices and logins. Logging out ends the browsing session, but the history returns on their next login.
The free core chat stores nothing on the server: the conversation lives only in the visitor's browser for the current page view and is gone on reload.
Stored conversations are kept until you delete them: set Conversation retention (days) under Wyregraf → Options → Chats to remove old ones automatically, or delete them on the Wyregraf → Conversations screen. See Conversations, Analytics, and Knowledge Gaps.
What's in a stored conversation is the visitor's questions and the assistant's answers — treat it accordingly in your site's privacy policy if your chats are public. Questions are also sent to your AI provider at answer time; see Is my content sent to the AI provider?
