This guide walks through the chat from the visitor's side: how answers arrive, the suggested questions, the buttons under each answer, and how long a conversation is kept. Most of it works out of the box; the settings that change it are listed with each feature.
Answers stream in as they are written #
By default the answer appears word by word while the model writes it, instead of after a pause. Two settings control this:
- Wyregraf → Options → Chats → Streamed responses turns streaming on or off for the whole site. Some hosts buffer output; Wyregraf detects that and falls back to delivering the whole answer at once.
- Disable Streaming on a chat's Restrictions tab turns it off for one chat.
Answers never stream when answer verification or Citation Integrity is on for the chat: those features check, and sometimes rewrite, the answer before the visitor may see it.
Starter and follow-up questions (Pro) #
Suggested questions give visitors a place to start and somewhere to go next. Both are set on the chat's Context tab.

- Questions Title is the heading above the suggestions — "Here's some questions you can ask" by default.
- Starter Questions are your own suggestions, shown first. If you add fewer than the display count, Wyregraf fills the rest with questions generated from the chat's content (see Summaries and Questions).
- Starter Questions Count is how many suggestions to show — 5 by default.
- Disable Follow-up Questions hides the follow-up chips under answers. Follow-ups are up to three generated questions from the sources the answer cited, so a visitor can keep exploring the same page. This switch appears on retrieval chats.
The buttons under each answer (Pro) #

Every answer ends with a row of buttons (1). From left to right:
- Copy message puts the answer on the clipboard. The copy keeps its formatting as Markdown — bold text, lists, and links survive a paste into most editors.
- Good response and Bad response rate the answer. Clicking the same thumb again clears the rating. Ratings show up for you on the Knowledge Gaps page's Rated Answers tab and as totals on Analytics — a fast way to find answers that need better source content.
- Regenerate response asks the same question again and replaces the last answer in place. It updates the same saved message, so a rating already given stays with the new answer.
How long conversations last #
With Wyregraf Pro, the sidebar keeps a visitor's conversations so they can return to them:
- Logged-out visitors are tied to their conversations by a cookie that lasts 48 hours and renews while they keep visiting.
- Logged-in users keep their conversations with their account and see them again on any device after they log in.
Either way, the conversations themselves are deleted on the schedule set by Conversation retention (days) — see Conversations, Analytics, and Knowledge Gaps. Visitors can also start over at any time with the New Chat button at the top of the sidebar or New Discussion in the main pane.
