That's Wyregraf's burst limit doing its job. By default a person can send 10 messages per 60 seconds to a chat; beyond that, messages are paused with "You are sending messages too quickly. Please wait a moment and try again." until the window rolls over. It applies to every chat and to everyone, administrators included, and it's there to protect you: without it, one over-eager visitor (or bot) could run up your AI provider bill.
Three things worth knowing:
- Guests are counted by network address. Logged-in users are counted by account, but logged-out visitors sharing one connection — an office, a classroom, a conference demo — share one allowance, so a group using the same chat can hit it together. If you're demoing to a room, that's the likely explanation, not a bug.
- You can change it per chat. On the chat's Restrictions tab, Burst Limit and Burst Window (seconds) set the allowance; leave them empty for the defaults, or set the limit to 0 to turn it off for that chat. See Usage and Rate Limits.
- It is not the usage quota. A visitor who has used up their daily or weekly allowance sees the usage-limit message instead — that one is set under Options → Usage Limits.
If a single visitor at a normal pace reports this repeatedly, something in front of your site (a proxy or CDN) may be presenting one shared address for many visitors — worth mentioning to your host or developer.
